The
Montgomery County Grand Jury has indicted 18 year old Donald
Gillespie for the shooting death of 18 year old Shamari
Jackson on August 21, 2007 near the intersection of Arlene
Avenue and St. James Avenue in Dayton.
The defendant has been indicted on:
- Felonious Assault (Serious
Physical Harm)
- Felonious Assault (Deadly Weapon)
- Discharge of a Firearm On or Near
Prohibited Premises
- Murder (Purposeful)
- Murder (Proximate Result of
Committing Felonious Assault (SPH))
- Murder (Proximate Result of

- Having Weapons While Under
Disability
- Tampering With Evidence
All of the charges except for the
Tampering With Evidence charge and the Having Weapons While
Under Disability charge include a Firearm Specification,
which adds an additional three years incarceration on each
count.
It appears that the victim and the
defendant knew each other from school, and were described as
friends. Around 11:15 pm on August 21, 2007 however, an
altercation between the victim and the defendant occurred.
The defendant allegedly shot the victim multiple times.
Prosecutor Mat Heck, Jr. said, “It is
tragic that again we see young adults in our community using
violence to settle their differences. We need to continue
to promote peace in our community, and strive to end
violence.”
