The Montgomery County Grand Jury has indicted
59 year old Rodney R. Richley for his criminal
actions as owner of Payroll Data Services of
Kettering. He is indicted on two counts of
Aggravated Theft of over $100,000, which are 3rd
degree felonies.
Between August 2002 and March 2003, the
defendant owned and operated Payroll Data
Services, which provided payroll data service to
local businesses. Some of the services the
defendant provided included the preparation of
payroll checks, payment of employee taxes
withheld, as well as the computation and payment
of other taxes. The defendant received money
from his clients to pay various taxes, but
failed to pay them.
The Ohio Department of Taxation and the Fraud
and Economic Crimes Division of the Montgomery
County Prosecutor’s Office investigated this
case. The defendant was arrested in Boca Rotan,
Florida and returned to Montgomery County.
Prosecutor Mat Heck, Jr. said, “The victims in
this case, some 20 local businesses used the
defendant to handle their payroll needs.
Instead of running a legitimate business, he
took advantage of them and stole thousands of
dollars in money that was supposed to pay
taxes. Not only are the businesses victims, but
his actions deprive the State of Ohio of much
needed tax revenue.”
