Press
conference – Matthew Scott Mackendrick 06-CR-3942
9-25-06
Today, the
Montgomery County Grand Jury has indicted 33 year old MATTHEW SCOTT MACKENDRICK,
of Kettering, Ohio in connection with his actions between August 1st
and September 14th of this year.
This
defendant has been charged with:
·
2 counts Rape
< 10 (F1)
·
2 counts
Gross Sexual Imposition < 13 (F3)
In the
evening of September 14, 2006 the mother of the victim came home to discover the
defendant was in bed with the child, who is five years old. The victim was not
clothed, and the defendant was only partially clothed. The victim’s mother
contacted the Kettering Police Department and an investigation was conducted,
resulting in today’s indictment. The defendant was arrested on September 18,
2006 and is currently being held in the Montgomery County Jail, with bail set at
$500,000.
Because the
child victim is under the age of 10, the total prison term the defendant faces
is two consecutive life sentences plus additional 10 years.
I want to
commend the Kettering Police Department for the excellent investigation they
conducted. These types of cases are often times difficult and time consuming to
investigate. Young victims, especially, must be allowed to feel safe and
protected in their own home.
Whenever
these troubling cases are reported, a thorough and complete investigation by the
police is the only way to eventually hold offenders accountable for their
actions.
Every child
is precious, and it is disturbing, at the least, to hear of young children being
sexually assaulted and/or abused. As law enforcement, we do everything we can
to identify those individuals that, for whatever reason, think it is acceptable
to victimize children.
Whenever we
discover evidence of exploited children, a full and complete investigation will
be conducted by the police and my office, and then the person responsible will
be held accountable.
