Defendants in Dog Fighting Case Found Guilty

 

During the third day of his jury trial, the defendant, 42 year old Ennis P. Lungs of Beaumont, Texas entered a plea of No Contest to all 27 counts of the indictment. He was found guilty as charged.  His co-defendant, 45 year old Eric Lewis, entered a plea of No Contest to all 17 counts in his indictment on Friday, November 30, just two days before his trial was to begin.  He was also found guilty as charged.

 

On November 3, 2006, these defendants were indicted by the Montgomery County Grand Jury on multiple felony charges relating to dog fighting.  With today’s guilty finding by the court, both defendants are now convicted of: 

 

Eric A. Lewis

·         14 counts Dog Fighting

·         3 counts Possession of Criminal Tools

 

Ennis P. Lungs

·         25 counts Dog Fighting

·         2 counts Possession of Criminal Tools

 

Defendant Lewis is scheduled to be sentenced on January 2, 2008.  He faces a maximum of 24 years in the penitentiary.  Lungs is scheduled to be sentenced on January 16, 2008.  He is facing a maximum of 39 years in the penitentiary.   

 

Prosecutor Mat Heck, Jr. said, “Dog fighting is an atrocious and vile treatment of domesticated animals.  Other criminal activity is often associated with it.  We will not tolerate dog fighting or the maltreatment of animals in our community.”
